Documentaire de grand format proposant le sujet original des métiers disparus. Chaque profession se voit attribuer une à deux pages où l'information est structurée par des questions, des descriptions et parfois des références ou un portrait, s'articulant à travers des peintures de synthèse. Ainsi, pour chacun, lecteur apprend "À quoi les reconnaissait-on?", "À quelle époque ont-ils existé" et "Pourquoi ont-il disparu?". Les pages de garde au début de l'ouvrage présentent une table des matières illustrée avec le nom de la profession à l'honneur, alors qu'à la fin, seul un objet représentatif de ce métier est fourni, permettant au lecteur de jouer à valider les connaissances acquises.
